We know that repairing or replacing your roof can be a BIG expense. We also know that your roof doesn’t understand money so it will likely need fixed at an inconvenient time. But most importantly, we know that your home is your biggest investment, so you need to protect it in the best way possible.
So you need a roof on a budget? No fear, there are plenty of options. Here’s a few tips:
FIRST Check that your current roof has a warranty — many homeowner’s forget that their roof is under warranty. If that is the case, your repair/replacement could be covered!
NEXT talk with your home insurance provider — if your roof was damaged by natural causes such as wind, hail, fire, etc. your insurance can provide monetary support.
Get an estimate from a professional — Good roofing companies have your best interests at heart and understand when you’re on a budget. Which is why Bone Dry offers free estimates (for example). So get yourself an estimate from a couple roof contractors before deciding what to do.
Consider temporary repairs— until you can afford a full roof replacement, consider repairing the issue.
Consider financing — unfortunately not all roofing issues can wait. Sometimes you have to get it replaced immediately; that’s why some contractors offer financing options so that you can pay a little at a time. Or you can acquire a loan from your bank and pay that back in time.
Research your material options — when choosing a shingle, you don’t necessarily have to have the best of the best (unless you have the time and money). Owen’s Corning, GAF, CertainTeed, and IKO all have multiple options at multiple price points for you to choose from.
After all this is considered, it is important to remember that roof age, size, and slope all contribute to the pricing. (click this link to Angie’s List to read more on pricing https://www.angieslist.com/articles/what-average-cost-replace-roof.htm)
