It was a hot, humid July morning when the crew from Bone Dry Roofing arrived at Roger Young’s home. Mr. Young is a third generation Army vet and has served since 1999. Since being put on medical leave after his service in Iraq (2003-2004), he works at Fort Knox near his home in Radcliff, KY.
Mr. Young said he was skeptical about applying to the Purple Heart Homes project because he thought it was “only for war heroes” and he “didn’t feel like one”. However, after completing the application process, he realized that he was, in fact, qualified.
Purple Heart Homes is a public charity that was founded in 2008 to provide housing for service-connected disabled veterans. As a sponsor of this charity, Owen’s Corning has donated 30 roof’s worth of shingles and plans to donate 50 (20 more) before 2018 ends.
As an Owen’s Corning Platinum Preferred contractor, Bone Dry Roofing offered our services on Thursday, July 5th. According to Mr. Young his home was hit by large hail last spring, and as a result, his home was experiencing some leaks. As a result, Owen’s Corning, Bone Dry Roofing, and the Purple Heart teamed up and replaced his full roof AND painted his shutters and door to match his new shingles!
We thank Roger Young for his time served as well as all veterans and hope to do more projects with the Purple Heart in the future.
