Ceiling fans are great aren’t they? Sometimes the moving air is just what you need to cool you down in the heat of the day. But did you know that ceiling fans can make you more comfortable in the winter AND save on your heating bills, too? We all know heat rises, right? Well wouldn’t it be great if you could bring that heat from the ceiling, down to where you are? You can! Did you know most ceiling fans have a reverse button? In reverse (blades move clockwise), a ceiling fan provides an updraft which forces the warm air that is up by the ceiling, downward. This helps circulate the warm air around the room more efficiently. In the summer, use the ceiling fan in the counterclockwise direction. While standing directly under the ceiling fan you should feel a cool breeze. The airflow produced creates a wind-chill effect, making you “feel” cooler. Remember to adjust your thermostat when using your ceiling fan — additional energy and dollar savings could be realized with this simple step! You’re welcome!
