The Importance of Routine Chimney Sweeps

Do you know how often you should have your chimney swept? According to the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA), it should happen at least once a year. When was the last time yours was done?

A chimney sweep most likely isn’t at the front of your mind, but every homeowner with a chimney should understand how important this type of maintenance is. Bone Dry Masonry division’s CSIA certified technicians can help ensure your chimney is clean and in proper working order, keeping you and your family safe and comfortable.

Safety Concerns

No matter how often you use your chimney, without a yearly check and chimney sweep, you run the risk of soot and chemical buildup that can be hazardous to your family and the structure of your home. Even seldom use of your chimney can leave behind deposits of a substance called creosote, which is corrosive, flammable, and may lead to unpleasant odors. A build-up of creosote can even cause a chimney fire.

Chimney Sweep Process

Routine sweeps will keep your chimney in safe, working order. Bone Dry’s certified chimney sweeps take extreme care and precautions to begin the chimney sweep process.

We will protect your home and create a safe environment by laying down protective floor and furniture coverings and setting up a vacuum for dust control. Then, we will begin the work of removing any build up of creosote, dirt and debris from the flue lining, and cleaning blockages from the liner, smoke chamber, firebox and damper.

Once this is complete, we will use a specialized camera to scan the chimney, looking for additional hazards, water intrusion, ventilation issues, etc. All our findings will be documented and shared with you throughout the process.

Pricing

On average, a chimney sweep can cost upwards of $200. Bone Dry Masonry understands the importance of this service for homeowners, and, by comparison, our full chimney sweep and scan services start as low as $129 (one story home) or $149 (two story home). This includes a full inspection and cleaning of your chimney to prevent the potential dangers discussed above, as well as a complimentary scan using specialized technology.
